The needs and behaviour of a mobile surfer differs greatly from an Internet surfer. The most important and most sustainable reason for maintaining a mobile website is that it plays a different role in your communication.

Considering the development of a mobile site to compliment your on line presence? We strongly agree and highly recommend it! It’s about having control over how your brand appears and to adapt your website to the  up rise in mobile device browsing.

After the release of the Apple iPhone the mobile device usage has been growing steadily. Smartphones today have large color touch screens, nice user interfaces and are highly optimized for browsing the web (please see brief statistics below).

The needs and behaviour of a mobile surfer differs greatly from an Internet surfer. The most important and most sustainable reason for maintaining a mobile web site is that it plays a different role in your communication than does the traditional web. The average mobile surf session is less than five minutes. There is usually a specific goal with their visit; to find a piece of information, to download a mobile service, or maybe visit their favourite brand.

The most important aspect to consider is the content and how it is presented. Part of that content may be the same as for the web, but parts are mobile specific. The contents must also be presented in the right order for a mobile surfer. Information that is on level three in an Internet web tree, may be on level one in the mobile. Another reason for having a mobile web site is that the content presentation itself should be mobile adapted. We believe in a less-is-more design philosophy for mobile web sites. Single out the three most important reasons to visit your mobile site, and make them visible at entry.

  • According to several sources, this year, sales of internet connected mobile devices surpass PC sales; hence the pressing question: “Do I need a mobile site?”
  • According to Google 50% of all mobile searches are for local goods and services.  Microsoft has said this number is 53%.
  • You need to ask; who is your target market? Are they going to be viewing your site or looking for it using iPhone/Android/BlackBerry?
  • Over 1 billion of the worlds 4+ billion mobiles phones are now smartphones, and 3 billion are SMS enabled.
  •  In 2014, mobile internet usage will overtake desktop internet usage and already in 2011, more than 50% of all “local” searches are done from a mobile device.
